Wallowing with the pigs

18 Jun

Not too long ago, Mazie Hirono was in Rhode Island to speak at some sort of Democratic event.

What was interesting is she spent her time taking shots at Senate challenger Linda Lingle instead of Ed Case.

Lingle will take on the winner of the Hirono/Case primary.

Make no mistake about it – she jumped into the pig pen in one statement:

“I bring quadruple diversity to the Senate. I’m a woman. I’ll be the first Asian woman ever to be elected to the U.S. Senate. I am an immigrant. I am a Buddhist. When I said this at one of my gatherings, they said, ‘Yes, but are you gay?’ and I said, ‘Nobody’s perfect.”

Lingle is single, Jewish, caucasian and some slime bags have whispered about her sexual orientation – as if that makes any difference on how good or bad a person she is or Senator she  would be.

Slimy, offense and shows how low some will stoop in politics.
She should be ashamed of herself.

We like Lingle as a person.
We don’t agree with some of her politics, especially when she didn’t support hometown boy Barack Obama in 2008 and her spending too much time hobnobbing in Washington while she was Governor.

We don’t like Hirono as a person.
We also don’t agree with her politics and constant jumping from one political race to another as she attempts to climb the political ladder.

It wasn’t that many years ago that speaking like that about someone was frowned upon.

You talked bad about someone and people said you didn’t have local values and weren’t part of our ohana.

That all changed when former Congressional Representative Cec Heftel ran for Governor in 1986.

The smear against him was mainland politics at its finest and it opened the floodgates of hell into Hawaii.

Today, people like Mazie spend their time and your donation dollars explaining why your shouldn’t vote for the other person instead of why you should vote for her.

The theory is – if you throw enough crap against the wall, some of it will stick.

The message is aimed at the undecided, not those who have already made up their minds.

Those that back Hirano will hear this stuff and say, “You go girl”.

Lingle supporters will bluster and complain and send more money to her campaign when her emails say she has to fight the nastiness from the other side.

This stuff works.
People with too much ambition, too much ego and too little scruples end up in office knowing that the dirtiest player wins.

Is it any wonder Congress can’t get anything done?

These are the people you sent to represent you, your family and your community.

And it’s your fault.
What does that say about your values?
