Lingle’s messy message

10 Jul

Linda Lingle seems to be wanting it both ways.

You might remember Mitt Romney preaching, “Obamacare cuts Medicare — cuts Medicare — by approximately $500 billion.”

That is a repeat of Republicans’ mantra of the 2010 midterm elections, which gave them big gains at both the state and federal levels and a majority in the House.

Yet the message conflicts not only with their past complaint that Democrats were against reining in Medicare spending, but also with the fact that House Republicans have voted twice since 2010 for the same 10-year, $500 billion savings in supporting Eric Ryan’s annual budgets.

Linda Lingle is preaching the same thing in her campaign emails:

“The health care bill as written hurts seniors by cutting $500 billion from Medicare. If that isn’t bad enough, the bill limits medical advances by taxing new medical inventions and the high-tech jobs they create.”

The email goes on to say:

“Whether she will admit it or not, Mazie Hirono is leading the charge for big cuts to Medicare. That’s certainly something she doesn’t put in an email to her supporters! Mazie is hurting our kupuna because she is unwilling to differ from her national party leadership, unwilling to debate the issues to determine better solutions, and unwilling to think beyond the talking points that she is handed by her party leadership.”

So Lingle needs to get off the fence. Either she supports the Republican Party – and that means $500 Billion in Medicare cuts or she doesn’t.

Blasting Mazie Hirono for backing Obama is a little like the pot calling the kettle black.

We rest our case.
