Another Republican nut case

1 Aug

It’s amazing what some politicians will say and do in the name of getting publicity.

What’s even more amazing is these people keep getting re-elected.

A Republican member of the Tennessee state legislature has emailed his constituents a “rumor circulating in conservative circles”.

The rumor: President Barack Obama is planning to stage a fake assassination attempt in an effort to stop the 2012 election from happening.

It would be funny until you realize a certain percentage of the people who got this believed it.

Representative Kelly Keisling’s email plugged the rumor that Obama and the Department of Homeland Security are planning a series of events that could lead to the imposition of “martial law” and delay the election.

He goes on to gossip a staged assassination attempt on the president could lead to civil unrest in urban areas and martial law.

Keisling got this crap from a conservative Florida blogger names Joe Angione, who wrote the rumor had not been confirmed but notes it has not been denied.

We guess that must mean it’s true.

In an unrelated story that just seems to go with all this…

Republican Representative Richard Hanna of New York is blasting the Republican Party.

In an interview with the Syracuse Post-Standard, he said his party is “too willing to accommodate its most extreme members.”

“I have to say that I’m frustrated by how much we – I mean the Republican Party – are willing to give deferential treatment to our extremes in this moment in history.”

“We render ourselves incapable of governing when all we do is take severe sides… If all people do is go down there and join a team, and the team is invested in winning and you have something that looks very similar to the shirts and the skins, there’s not a lot of value there.”
