The political bounce – II

8 Sep

Obama gets his bounce from the Democratic National convention.

These are the results when registered voters are asked: “Suppose the presidential election were held today. If Barack Obama were the Democratic Party’s candidate and Mitt Romney were the Republican Party’s candidate, who would you vote for Barack Obama, the Democrat or Mitt Romney, the Republican?”

Those who are undecided are further asked if they lean more toward Obama or Romney and their leanings are incorporated into the results.

What’s important to note in the chart is the majority of the interviews for this poll occurred over a lengthy seven-day window.

That means only a small portion of those interviews were conducted after the major speeches at the Democratic convention.

In fact, most of the interviews in the poll were conducted just after the Republican convention in Tampa, a period in which Romney should have been showing his convention bounce.

Some are now saying Romney’s convention may have actually produced a “negative bounce”.

The true effect of the DNC will show this coming week.
