GOP cooking the voter books

1 Oct

We try to scold the Republicans and Democrats in equal measure.

It’s difficult because the GOP seems to be populated by a large number of loonies and idiots.

To wit:

Florida elections officials are saying at least 10 counties have identified suspicious and possibly fraudulent voter registration forms turned in by a company working for the Republican Party of Florida.

The Florida Republicans filed a complaint with election officials.

So, what’s the twist?

It turns out the Republican National Committee is the one that urged state parties in seven swing states to hire that company, Strategic Allied Consulting.

The RNC paid the company at least $3 million – passed through the state parties of Florida, Nevada, Colorado, North Carolina and Virginia – to register voters and run get-out-the-vote operations.

The committee fired the company late last week – but the damage is done and fingers are being pointed all over the place.

Florida election officials have turned over to prosecutors 106 voter registration forms submitted by one worker.

Some contained apparent forgeries and other problems.

Now elections officials across Florida are going through voter registration forms turned in to their counties on behalf of the state Republican Party.

So far, many registration forms are turning up with fake signatures and false information in at least eight counties so far.

In Santa Rosa County alone, elections officials found 100 suspicious voter registration applications out of a batch of roughly 400 turned in by the state Republican Party.

Most were signatures that were spelled differently than the applicants’ names, fake house numbers and dates of birth did not match the names.

The biggest red flag was that most of the forms were missing Social Security numbers.

Strategic Allied is run by an Arizona-based man named Nathan Sproul.

He’s been accused in the past that his employees destroyed Democratic registrations.
No charges were ever filed.

Sproul says when he was asked by the RNC to do field work this year, they requested that he set up a new company to avoid being publicly linked to the past allegations.

This sounds like a grade-B crap movie.
Except it isn’t.
