Another crappy politician

virginia-foxx-sizedPlease meet Republican Representative Virginia Foxx of North Carolina.

Looks like your friendly grandmotherly type.

She isn’t.

She got in an elevator and chewed out a House staffer after catching the lady riding on a “members only” elevator.

Here’s how it all supposedly happened from someone along for the ride:

Elevators were slow that day because furniture was being moved around the Longworth House Office Building.

When the members-only elevator arrived, the House staffer stepped in.

Up one floor, the doors opened and in steps Foxx.

The nice Ms.Foxx said to the staffer, “This is a ‘members-only’ elevator; can you read?”

She then demanded the staffer’s name as the elevator stopped at the next floor.

Ms. Foxx: “Get out here.”

“What does this sign say? It says, ‘Members of Congress only.’ ”

The innocent staffer attempted to point out that the sign next to it stated, “during votes”.

The story continues that Foxx started yelling, “Members only!” pointing at the sign.

“I’m just making sure we are hiring people who know how to read,” she said.

A momentary lapse in good manners, you say?

Hardly.

There’s the time she was on a radio show and the subject was the cost of college.

“I went through school. I worked my way through. It took me seven years; I never borrowed a dime of money. … I have very little tolerance for people who tell me that they graduate with $200,000 of debt or even $80,000 of debt.”

Virginia Foxx went to the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in 1968.

So, seven years at UNC Chapel Hill, adjusted for inflation, cost $46,100.

That same education now would cost more than $140,000.

We note that the minimum wage was 38 percent higher in 1968 than it is now, adjusted for inflation.

We also note she’s a member of the House’s Education and Workforce Committee and chairwoman of the Subcommittee on Higher Education and Workforce Training.

Holy crap.
