Odds and ends

Obama-and-Boehner-sizedRepublican House Speaker John Boehner is getting a bit paranoid these days.

He’s saying he believes the primary goal of President Obama’s second term is to “annihilate the Republican Party”.

“Given what we heard yesterday about the president’s vision for his second term, it’s pretty clear to me that he knows he can’t do any of that as long as the House is controlled by Republicans. So we’re expecting over the next 22 months to be the focus of this administration as they attempt to annihilate the Republican Party. And let me just tell you, I do believe that is their goal — to just shove us into the dustbin of history.”

Someone get him his meds.

debt-ceiling-fixed-sizedElsewhere, the Republicans backed off and passed a measure to let the country pay its bills through March.

Not so quick.

True, the measure raises the debt ceiling.

But it was no nice-guy move or giving in to the inevitable.

It’s a plan.

The idea is to starve off that fight until the annual budget battle begins.

Then they have the Senate and White House over a barrel to force budget cuts they want.

We wonder who’s annihilating who? (or whom. Or whatever)
