How’s the budget stuff?

13 Feb

GOP-thumbs-down-sizedSo now that the President’s State of the Union address is over, let’s see how it might have affected the looming budget crunch, cliff, disaster, call-it-what-you-will.

Senate Republican Minority Leader Mitch McConnell predicts automatic spending cuts will take effect on March 1st as scheduled.

Says he, “It’s pretty clear to me that the sequester’s going to go into effect. I have seen no evidence that the House plans to act on this matter before the end of the month.”

He added: “Read my lips: I’m not interested in an 11th-hour negotiation.”

Republican Rand Paul, “Not only should the sequester stand; many pundits say the sequester really needs to be at least $4 trillion to avoid another downgrade of America’s credit rating.”

Republican Governor Bobby Jindal, “Obama says ‘we can’t just cut our way to prosperity.’ It may be true, but how does he know? He’s never cut anything.”

That’s the spirit of compromise.
