Buying your way in

organizing-for-action-sizedWell, this is interesting…

It’s being reported that a fundraising group for President Obama’s – Organizing for Action – is selling access to him.

The site has a video from Michelle Obama and says, “Organizing for Action will support the legislative agenda we voted on, train the next generation of grassroots organizers and leaders, and organize around local issues in our communities.”

While we didn’t see it on the website, we also didn’t sign-up to look deeper.

But the New Your Times says large donations translate into access.

That’s according to donors getting the sell job from the president’s aides.

Next month, Organizing for Action will hold a “founders summit” at a hotel near the White House, where donors paying $50,000 each will mingle with Mr. Obama’s former campaign manager, Jim Messina, and Mr. Carson, who previously led the White House Office of Public Engagement.

We wouldn’t pay $10 for that.

Supposedly, giving or raising $500,000 or more puts a donor on a national advisory board for the President’s and the privilege of attending quarterly meetings with the president, along with other meetings at the White House.

So far this meets the definition of “selling access” in our book.

This just looks bad.

The group is a tax-exempt 501(c)(4) and doesn’t have to required to disclose the identities of its donors, nor the amounts they give.

We’re really quite disappointed.
