But if you had asked us a couple of days ago if he’d jump in the middle of the canceled White House tours, we’d have called that a sucker bet.
Of course he would.
And of course he did.
Last week the White House said it would suspend the tours through September 30th because of the sequester budget cuts.
Of course the Republicans got crazy and called that a political ploy to get negative reaction from the American public over the cuts.
So, in jumps Donald Trump – saying he’ll pay the costs to keep the White House tours open for rest of the fiscal year.
He stole that idea from Newt Gingrich.
Last week Gingrich twitted that he thought that Trump could pick up the tab, “Donald trump should offer to pay for the white house tours. He can afford it and it would show who cares more for American students.”
How much would it cost The Donald if it really happens?
It costs $74,000 a week to run the tours.
You have to figure the costs to pay 37 uniformed officers $50 an hour for 40 hours a week to keep the bad guys out.
You see, the Secret Service has to cut $84 million from its budget.
Two mill is only a small bit, but the officers normally assigned to the tours will be reassigned to other duties at the White House.
That saves more.
Considering the way Trump has blasted the President during the last election, we doubt Obama will be accepting his offer.
But Trump will still pound on this for all he can.
