No one is suggesting the party should read the polls and shift its position depending on the daily numbers.
We do suggest the party muzzle some of its leaders who living on a different planet.
For example: Georgia GOP Chairwoman Sue Everhart.
She’s warning straight people might enter into fraudulent gay marriages to get benefits.
Before we go further, it should be noted that sort of fraud is extremely rare according to those who investigate such things.
That doesn’t stop this lady.
She says someone can be “…as straight as an arrow, and you may have a friend that is as straight as an arrow. Say you had a great job with the government where you had this wonderful health plan. I mean, what would prohibit you from saying that you’re gay, and y’all get married and still live as separate, but you get all the benefits?”
Ms. Everhart says she believes a husband and a wife should be a man and a woman, and the benefits should be for a man and a woman.
“There is no way that this is about equality. To me, it’s all about a free ride.”
The lady doesn’t address the possibility of marriage fraud among opposite-sex couples, although that does happen in order to get immigration benefits.
And then, Everhart also says she could not understand how two gay people could ever have sex.
“If it was natural, they would have the equipment to have a sexual relationship.”
Let’s be clear – she can hold any view she wants as an individual – no matter how dumb.
But she was speaking as the chair of the Georgia Republican Party.
If the party as a whole wants to take a stand against possible fraudulent gay marriage, then do it.
But to trot out this benefits for men-and-women only crap is just another example of the GOP stumbling around lost in the woods.
